Cancer Cannot Take Away Memories

This picture of my Nana and I after my last cheerleading competition in Florida will be cherished forever. My Nana recently passed away from malignant melanoma and it has had a big impact on my life because I realized that she had a passion for taking pictures and pictures of family and friends hold a lot of value. Pictures have the capability to bring back memories and keep them close to us because pictures are physical evidence of what has happened in the past unlike our brains which are not as helpful when we are trying to remember the past. Pictures spark our memories to that exact moment in time to where we were, what we were doing, and who we were with. When my mom was putting together picture boards for the funeral for everyone to see, she was telling me how happy she was that my Nana had albums upon albums of her life because we could reminisce about her childhood, her travels, our family gatherings, and my Nana's big smile. Pictures leave behind a legacy of your life and are able to tell a story with just a glance at it so it's important to capture as many memories as you can. And now it's my turn to start snapping shots of my life because I know that's what she would want. Rest in peace Nana, I love and miss you very much. P.S. Your pictures are deeply cherished!!
